Question: How do I see myself in the classroom? What do I "SEE" happening in my classroom? What do I need to Learn to make this happen? What are my next steps to make this happen?
I see myself having a very student centered classroom. I believe that the best form of teaching is inquiry or disscussion based. I think they make students critically think about what they are learning. Memorizing is too common in History and I don't want my students to just relay on only facts but how they see History everyday of their lifes. I want my students to come to conclusions on their own. Everyone has their own thoughts about how things have happened and I want my students to decide what they believe more.
How I see myself coming into my class and starting off with current events of the day and discussing them. I want them to be very caught up about what is going on in the world. I think current events help students relate that one day that stuff is going to be History and they have to know how it affects them now and how it will affect them in the future. Its the chain reaction I want them to understand. I I want to give the class a question or a prompt and a little bit of background of a topic and have the class start to answer and come up with an answer without leading them straight there.
I need to look up lesson plans to see how other teachers teach inquiry and disscussion. It will be a lot of trial and error but I am eager to learn. I think teaching seminars will be useful esspecially in the beggining of year. It will help me brush up on new information. Seminars are good for new and current teachers. I will always change with the time so I don't loose the intrest of my students.
