If you don’t want to wait for Google to roll out its “grid view” look for Google Meet, use the Chrome Google Meet Grid View extension to get one yourself. Given all the changes Google has been making to Meet, it’s possible this extension might work one day and be messed up the next. In the meantime, this Grid View works.
Meet Attendance is a great extension you can use to track which of your students show up for your classes. If you’re trying to manage your classroom and do attendance, this extension can help!
This extension replicates our favorite Zoom feature - Instead of sitting there with your microphone un-muted all the time, leave it muted and just mash the space bar whenever you need to say something to your class. This feature isn’t baked into Google Meet by default, but install Push to Talk and it will be.
The mute button is probably the most used feature in Google Meet. Many students do not like speaking up during classes. Even if they are quiet, background noise at home can be even more distracting for the teacher. Due to this, it becomes hard to read them and their understanding of the content.
Nod — Reactions for Google Meet allows students to use emoji’s and a hand raise tool to help express themselves and their understanding. There are a few emoji’s included, with a plan to add more in the future.
If you wish to use this extension in your class, all your students will need to have the extension installed on their profile as well!
I know teachers everywhere are missing their smart boards. Being able to show a document or website, and use drawing tools to highlight important pieces is tough to do without the technology. It allowed lessons to become more engaging, and remote learning is no excuse for boring classes.
Web Paint allows the teacher to use many of the drawing tools available on a smartboard. When the extension is enabled, teachers can draw all over whatever is being shared on their screen to help reinforce learning.
The best part is the screenshot tool, which allows you to keep all of your markings in a digital image. Teachers can send these after lessons to help with their understanding.
The Share To Classroom extension allows you to push web pages to any of your Classroom classes, so they open instantly on your students’ computers. With this extension, you can get your students on the right page, quickly and reliably every time. You can also post announcements, create assignments, or save web pages to post to Classroom later.
The Kami Chrome extension and Drive App is probably the number one recommended PDF editor in the education space. I know many schools that use it. It is freemium, meaning you can use some features for free, and it integrates beautifully with Google Classroom.
