Ms. Peden
Written by Kat Smith
As of last spring, Yough hired a new athletic trainer, Amber Peden. Amber became interested in becoming an athletic trainer due to her time as an athlete playing softball and volleyball. Her freshmen year, she had attended a sports medicine fair at UPMC and was interested in what the athletic trainer had presented to her. She grew up a big hockey fan, and when Clint Malarchuck was injured, she watched the athletic trainer save his life. It inspired her to pursue a career in this profession. Amber had attended Duquesne University for her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and A.T. She is still attending university for her Master's in Athletic Training. She was the first-ever athletic trainer at Benjamin Franklin High School in Queen Creek, AZ, for two years. She worked at the Belle Vernon school district for six years and at Pine Richland for six months before coming to Yough. Previous athletic trainer Colleen had told Amber nothing but great things about Yough, and Amber applied and got offered the job through Independence Health. When asked about her time here at Yough so far, she replied, ¨I have enjoyed my time here at Yough thus far. I have only been here for about a year, but everyone has been very kind, welcoming, and helpful. I have no complaints!¨ The athletes here at Yough are extremely lucky to have Amber helping them.

Among the student teachers who have joined us this year at Yough is Miss Best, who has been student-teaching in the band room. Hannah Baker interviewed her about her background and experience at Yough so far. Baker asked Ms. Best, “What inspired you to study Music Education and to become a band teacher?” She replied, “I had a great band director in school that I felt inspired by, and I wanted to share what he taught me with other students.” Baker also asked her what university she was from, to which she replied, “Duquesne University." Lastly, Baker asked, “What is your favorite thing about student-teaching at Yough so far?” Ms. Best answered, “My favorite part is that I really love the students and it makes me happy when I can get them to work with me.” Thank you Ms. Best for your feedback, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your time here at Yough.
Ms. Pompura

A fresh face has arrived at Yough High School this year as Miss Pompura assists the faculty as a student teacher. She has been observing Mrs. Nelson, one of our Spanish teachers, and our students are happy to have her. Pompura has always been close to the community. She graduated from Norwin High School. She then went on to continue school at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg, choosing to study abroad in Barcelona, and is planning to graduate in August. When asked what her favorite thing about student teaching is, she made a point to say the students she has for class make her time here most enjoyable. Pompura also elaborated that she wants to be a teacher because she wants to shape the future generations by teaching while still allowing her students to have fun in class. Her favorite memory while at Yough has been when her students wore party hats for her birthday. Although she is planning to finish her student teaching in April, we are so happy to have her while she’s here!
