Boys Basketball

The Yough boys basketball team had a successful year. This was Devin Owen’s first year as head coach. A major highlight from the season was beating a playoff team, East Allegheny 55-51. The only senior on the team, Jackson Pore, was asked if he had any advice for the younger players, and he replied, “Don’t get down on yourself”. Congratulations, Jackson Pore, on a successful 4 years of basketball.
Wrestling

The Yough Wrestling team had an accomplished and determined season. This season has brought both challenges and learning experiences for the cougars on the mat. The team was challenged with tough competitions, competing in events organized by the Westmoreland County Coaches Association (WCCA) along with other area programs at the 2026 WCCA Championships. This year the team is represented by one senior, Jose Ramirez. Ramirez quoted, “I think we did good this season, I am going to miss going to practice the most and my team.” Earlier this season, Yough faced Southmoreland in non-section matches, several individuals showed great efforts by Cougar wrestlers despite the team result leaning in favor of the Scotties. Overall the Cougars achieved a successful season this year.
Girls Basketball

The Yough Girls Basketball team had a meaningful season. The team introduced a new assistant coach, Steve Mittereder. Their record was 7-14. The younger players on the team are hoping to improve next year. The girls spent this season bonding and creating a good foundation for the future years of this team. Congratulations to the only senior on the team, Carly Fitzgibbons. Carly has played on the varsity team all four years of her high school career. Good luck with what the future holds!
Bowling

The Yough bowling team wrapped up a fulfilling season. They continued to compete with other strong programs across Western Pennsylvania, like Norwin, McKeesport, and Belle Vernon. Coach Newlin reflected on the team, stating, “ Over time, the boys' team has improved a lot since last year. There's always room for improvement in team chemistry. The season went well overall. I think that it was a rebuilding year, and we will just keep getting better.” Big congrats to David Steele, Dustin Riva, Savannah Brick, and Alexis Wood for earning honors this season. And big thanks to the captains for their strong leadership, Cullen Cooper and Luka Reeping for the boys, and Alexis Wood and Joyrayne Swope for the girls. Proud of the progress this season — Yough bowling future is looking bright! Thanks to Mr. Maldonaldo and Dr. Newlin for another great season!
Winterguard

Yough’s Winterguard is halfway through their season of Once Upon a Dream. Based on Sleeping Beauty, the performance features music from Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey and her cover of Once Upon a Dream. They have their championships on March 28th-- wish them luck! Especially to our captains, Avaree Beeler and Lanae Luciani, and our other seniors, Carly Fitzgibbons and Emma Padgelek.
Hockey

Congrats to our Yough students who are on the Ringgold Rams Hockey Team. On March 16, they won the 2026 PIHL Class-D2 Championship! It was a close game, with our Yough senior Anthony Bonari scoring the winning goal during overtime.
