CWCTC Field Trip
Written by Jena Morris
9th-grade students had an opportunity to visit the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center (CWCTC) to explore the hands-on career options it had to offer. Students got to explore three programs of their choice, allowing them to center on areas that matched their interests and career goals, while learning about how vo-tech can also provide the education they need to prepare them for their future careers. Many students stated that they enjoyed their visit to The CWCTC and found it helpful as they began to decide or rethink course selections and future goals.
NAHS Field Trips

The Students of the National Art Honor Society took a field trip to the towns of West Newton and Herminie to paint on the windows of local businesses. They spread Christmas cheer among the town, each student helping to create a unique piece of art on the window they were assigned! In West Newton, Juniors Ava Diets, Cassidy Ostrander, Cheyanne Lape, and Shiley Bold showed the community their creative designs, including the Grinch, Snoopy, and an adorable gingerbread scene! The following week, the club took a trip to our local Herminie. Students Hannah Sullenberger and Taylor Aiello took on painting on the windows of a local salon, The Magic Mirror. They showed their talents through a beautiful pink scene, making the windows truly pop! Of course, this trip wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership from the NAHS Officers, president Anna Lindner, vice president Hannah Sullenberger, secretary Mona Brooks, treasurer Joelle McCallen, and NAHS leader Mr. Stofko!

Written by Cassidy Ostrander
During the first half of the year, the Yough gifted students, under the guidance of Mr. German, participated in several enriching competitions. Among them were Pumpkin Drop, Model UN, Quizbowl, and, recently, Game Jam. Notably, at Quizbowl, the JV team got first place, and the Varsity team got second. Great job to those who participated! The second semester of the 2025-2026 school year is already looking promising for the students in YALE, offering just as many opportunities as the first semester did.

Students from AP Government and Physics recently participated in an educational field trip. The AP Government students competed in a competition where they presented their own inventions and earned second place for their work. During the event, they also had the opportunity to speak with three professors who spoke about business, time management, and statistics. At the same time, AP Physics students visited the planetarium at Saint Vincent, where they toured the campus and listened to speakers who discussed different careers and fields that involve physics. Overall, the trip gave students a great educational experience, thank you Mr. Aaron and Mr. Cannizzarro for this!
