Director of the EMERALD Lab
Hannah is a Lecturer in Psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of York. She completed her DPhil at Oxford University in 2016, examining imitation abilities in children with autism or Developmental Language Disorder, and measures of brain systems argued to support imitation. She went on to complete a post-doc with Geoff Bird at Kings College London, before taking her first lectureship at Greenwich University in 2017. She moved to York in 2019. Aside from her research activities, she helps direct the Development, Disorders and Clinical Practice MSc at York's Psychology Department.
Current PhD researchers
Trish completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter in 2020 and then completed my master's degree at the University of Goldsmiths in 2021. My research focuses on emotion recognition, eye gaze, developmental language disorder and alexithymia.

Previous PhD Scholars
Natasha was a PhD student at York from 2020 until 2023. Natasha completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Brunel University London in 2019 and then completed her Master's degree at the University of York in 2020. Her research focuses are emotion recognition, ASD, alexithymia, and mood disorders. Natasha has since worked at Royal Holloway University London.
Laidlaw and INSPIRE scholars
Miriam is a 3rd year psychology student at the university of York, aiming to pursue a career in clinical psychology with a specific interest in developmental disorders. Miriam is also a Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership scholar, and as part of this scholarship has conducted research over two summers looking at autistic women's diagnostic experiences and interactions between these and mental health, well being, and identity.
Imogen is a 3rd year psychology student at the University of York. She is also a Laidlaw Research and Leadership scholar, and as part of this scholarship conducted research on the perception of truthfulness of youth with Developmental Language Disorder.
Annabel is a second year medical student, and also on an INSPIRE programme, which supports medical students to get involved in University research. Annabel has been conducted research on camouflaging in Developmental Language Disorder.
