Collection Management

A framework for maintaining collections (purchased, open access, subscribed or donated) and monitoring their long term use and value so that Library resources and space are maximised

  • Collections are regularly reviewed for use and relevance to current academic activity, ensuring space for new items and for study within the library buildings is balanced

  • The Library maintains non-public access storage space for items of rarity, uniqueness or which there is a responsibility to conserve in perpetuity

  • The Library values, maintains and preserves items in its care

  • The Library, where appropriate, provides surrogates through digitisation or microform

  • The final copy of a book will be retained (e.g. duplicates will be withdrawn only where the Finite criteria is met)

  • The Library disposes of, or repairs, items which are damaged, and replacements are provided where appropriate and available

  • Withdrawn items are sold to approved disposal agents, offered to charity or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner
