The CMALT Guidelines state that:
"The purpose of this is to help you plan for your professional development; it will also be useful when preparing to meet your continuing professional development requirement to remain in good standing."
My immediate goals are to further develop my skills in creating interactive and dynamic self-study resources using Xerte and Panopto. I've attended training sessions on these platforms and have had some success using them already, but there's functionality I haven't yet used. For example, I haven't embedded audio or video content in a Xerte tutorial, which I think could be useful to demonstrate points or give explanations or further resources. I'll also continue to explore good design practice for multimedia materials, so I can take a more considered approach when creating interactive tutorials and screencasts. At this stage, I'll focus on these platforms as they're quite new to me, but later on I'll also be able to explore other options.
Another focus is continuing to learn about accessibility and inclusive design. For example, for the online self-study resources I need to learn more about good practice in captioning, but also consider other formats that may be appropriate alternatives to audio and video content. I'm also looking forward to exploring Blackboard Ally when that becomes available, to see how this can be used to monitor and improve my own practice and also as a tool to support tutors in learning more about accessibility.
In the longer term, my ambition is to transition from LT-focused teaching roles to teaching-focused LT roles. This is quite a small shift, and I feel it is more related to the focus of the team I work within, rather than my role itself. I’m still figuring out how to achieve this, but further study will help me find that out.
Writing this CMALT portfolio has really helped me to reflect on my use of LT, and my principles, and I feel my practice has developed hugely through this process. I’d like to continue this and expand my knowledge through an MSc or PhD related to Technology-Enhanced Teaching.
