The Augmented Foyer

After being a visitor to the Digital Creativity Week exhibition, a member of the Library staff suggested that we might create a prototype for augmenting the Library foyer. We discovered that all the signage around the library was easily augmentable.

But it was working with a Chinese student volunteer Selena, that revealed some of concepts in the foyer that coiuld be helped with AR. For example, it was useful for the map to simply "speak the names of the different buildings". Most people in China will never have heard how "Harry Fairhust" is pronounced.

We were also to simply explain why somebody would want to validate their library card.

The signage and fixtures and fittings were used as Trigger images, so that when you pointed your device at the validation point above, it explained itself ( in Chinese - with the help of Serena ) See below.
