Employees who are not Designated Service employees, Aquatics employees, Fitness employees or Sports employees wear professional attire. What constitutes professional attire varies on an employee’s position and the setting and surrounding circumstances. For example, there are instances in which an employee who is subject to this Professional Attire Standard may elect to wear a YMCA uniform shirt paired with slacks and dress shoes while in other situations an employee may appear unprofessional wearing anything less formal than a business suit or dress.
Employees subject to the Professional Attire Standard should apply good judgment in selecting clothing which is appropriate for the coming work day. In cases of doubt or uncertainty, employees are encouraged to defer to the Professional Attire Standard or consult with their supervisor.
Employees who are subject to the YMCA’s Professional Attire Standard may purchase YMCA uniform shirts and other apparel at their own expense. Employees who voluntarily wear YMCA uniform shirts must comply with all elements of the Service-Focused Image while working in uniform.
