Designated Service Uniform

Apparel is expected to be clean and laundered, free of stains/discoloration.

YMCA T-shirts

The YMCA provides uniform shirts (“YMCA Shirts”) to Designated Service Employees which apply to their specific area of service, e.g. Membership. The YMCA provides the shirts at no cost. The number of shirts provided to an employee is based upon the number of weekly shifts the employee typically works, and the YMCA will issue additional or replacement shirts as appropriate.

Employees who prefer to wear a shirt under a YMCA shirt may wear a short-sleeved tee shirt of any color or a long-sleeved white or black tee shirt.

Footwear

Designated Service Employees are required to wear proper, safe, and clean footwear that is closed-toed, closed-backed with rubber soles. For your safety, heels may not be more than two inches high. Employees must wear shoes at all times except while performing duties which require their feet to get wet.

Bottoms

Designated Service Employees are only permitted to wear black, navy, gray, brown or khaki shorts, dress pants, trousers, and skirts. Any other type of work bottom is not permitted. Work bottoms should be worn at a length at least to fingertips or longer and condition in adherence to all other Standard of Excellence Dress Code requirements which respects the YMCA’s brand.

Please note:

Additional Apparel

Hats, Jackets, Pullovers, etc.

While working, Designated Service Employees are permitted to wear additional, “official YMCA” outerwear clothing such as hats, visors, jackets, pullovers, etc. in addition to their uniform shirts. Employees can purchase these items by going to the YMCA Uniform Store. These items are purchased at the employee's expense using a personal credit card.

Based upon the YMCA’s needs, the YMCA may issue items of outerwear to specific Designated Service Employees at no cost. While working, employees are not permitted to wear outerwear which is not obtained from the YMCA Uniform Store or YMCA issued.

Denim Fridays for All Employees

On Fridays, all employees may wear denim jeans, shorts, or skirts. Denim must be in adherence to all other Standard of Excellence Dress Code requirements. The continuation, suspension or cancellation of Denim Fridays depends upon the continued compliance of all employees.
