About
UAF's geophysical institute has recently partnered with YKSD to put together an exciting and culturally relevant "DRONES" curriculum. It is a highly guided, plug and play set of lesson plans targeted towards elementary students, where they will explore both drones and Alaska Native culture.
The online resource page for DRONES can be found here, which includes a program overview, teacher and student materials, as well as informative videos and interviews with community members discussing the value of drones in rural Alaska. All schools should have the materials for this curriculum in a yellow DRONES tote.
Pros -
Super fun, what student wouldn't be excited to fly drones?
Approachable for students and teachers of all skill levels
Detailed lesson plans
Culturally relevant!
Cons -
Requires an open space like a gymnasium, winter can be difficult on drone batteries
Requires disciplined students
No online learning portal
