Tips to writing your personal statement

Step 1: Understanding

  • Understand why you are interested in pursuing a particular university course



Step 2: Collating

  • Start to write down your content in point form

  • Pull together relevant supporting information that proves your interest, skills and aptitude for these courses

  • Include relevant CCA, work experiences, volunteer experiences, awards, competitions as proof

  • Get feedback from teachers, parents, ECG counsellor, friends to clarify if the points are relevant and clearly stated


Step 3: Refining

  • Start to write in full sentences

  • Check grammar, spelling and punctuation many times

  • Get feedback from teachers, parents, friends, ECG counsellor for final draft before submission before deadline

  • Volunteer for causes you are interested in (Giving.sg; NVPC.org.sg)

  • Learn new skills (attend online courses; brush up on knowledge on regional cultures and languages; read up on topics related to your future university course)
