SAESNEG
Our aim is to ensure that every child in Melin Gruffydd has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. In order to facilitate this, we seek to create an atmosphere and ensure appropriate resources within the school that allow all children to succeed and to reach their full potential.
We acknowledge that some children will require additional support in order that they may reach their full potential and our Additional Learning Needs Coordinator is always on hand to offer advice for teachers and staff to ensure early and appropriate interventions to improve the attainment of those pupils requiring additional support. The Additional Learning Needs Coordinator ensures that all staff are supported when advice is needed for supporting learners in their classroom.
A number of different interventions are in place in school to support individuals. Our ALNCo works closely with specialist support teams and teachers from the following teams. ASD (Autsitic Spectrum Disorder) LST (Literacy Support Team) EHW (Emotional Health and Wellbeing) SLCN (Social Language and Communication Needs) EYIF (Early Years Inclusion Forum) .
Our ALNCo ensures that all relevant and current information is passed on to our staff and attends ALNCO forums. Our ALNCO also works closely with our Family Engagement Officer.
The New Additional Learning Needs Bill
From January 2022, The Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act (ALNET) replaces the current Special Educational Needs (SEN) framework with a reformed system based on Additional Learning Needs (ALN). The Bill makes provision for universal, statutory Individual Development Plans (IDP) for all children and young people with ALN.
All schools in Wales will be required to make changes to their current systems. We are working in collaboration with Cardiff County Council to ensure a smooth transition to the new ALNET Act.
