Lent: A Season of Reconciliation and Renewal
During Lent, the Church prepares to celebrate the Paschal Mystery (the passion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus). It also prepares to celebrate Baptism, for those who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil and for all the Church, whose members renew their baptismal promises at Easter. The three pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting, and almsgiving—offer ways to revisit our relationships with God, ourselves and our neighbours, and along with the sacrament of Reconciliation, enable us to become closer to Christ.
Lent calls us to a spiritual understanding of the events of salvation and a renewed effort to live a life reflecting redemption.1
