As staff and students arrive at school after the death of a community member, it is important to be prepared to support their needs. While students may begin the day in their classrooms, it may become necessary to have space where those who have been particularly impacted by the loss can go to receive support. It is recommended that space outside of the classroom be provided since some students may need the comfort of routine in order to cope with the loss.
We cannot overlook the importance of peer support for students who are grieving. The tips below may help students to support their friends in a way that is positive and healthy.
