Reflection
Pop art uses bold, saturated colors and strong contrasts to make an image pop. The style often features complex pattern repetition and simplicity to intensify the opposing elements. I learned to use contrasting colors on the color wheel to make the foreground stand out. I used bright, warm tones in my name to make it pop against the cool patterns in the background. Furthermore, I used a simple pattern on my name and complex patterns in my background to further emphasize the contrast without making the piece too busy. This assignment helped me focus on the design process and planning. Without diligently planning out my work, it wouldn't have the same thought-out, organized feel that the piece has.
I selected the font “Keep on Truckin". I picked it because I enjoyed the lightweight, free feeling of the bubble letters. The name also stuck out to me because it reminded me of one of my favorite life lessons: you start where you start, and you end where you end, so just keep going when you're in the middle. I feel that the bright, inviting colors represent my positive, fun nature and humor, and the font spoke to me because of its free energy. I took my time to be diligent with my color and pattern choice to properly reflect the Pop Art culture from the fifties, being saturated with opposite colors contrasting with complex patterns and intriguing fonts.
