One of my favorite life lessons from my family is to live in the moment and to enjoy life for what it is. I love art because it inspires me to capture different moments in time where the world or people are living different things. I want to improve my realism drawing techniques using depth and contrast while also learning to be abstract. I am a perfectionist, which often makes realistic and abstract are difficult in many ways. When something isn't how I want it to be in art, I typically spend time changing it instead of embracing it. I love feedback, I think it is another way to get a different perspective and idea about my piece.
I achieved these goals through all of my work. My self-portrait taught me to accept the small errors even in realism. One thing that I am especially proud of from that assignment is my improvement from my original draft to my final product. I learned to use shading to create depth and line to influence reality and movement. Similarly, this recent watercolor unit has changed my perspective on art, allowing me to embrace abstraction and imperfection and utilize it to form a balanced piece with detail and curiosity without depicting an image. Finally, this class has allowed me to take feedback and use it immediately in my work to understand alternate insightful perspectives. An artist is a person who uses a medium to capture emotions or memories to expressthemels into a physical creation. I believe I am an artist because i enjoy every optuinty to produce work that captures moments and feelings in my life.
My final watercolor landscape is my favorite piece from this class. I enjoyed using watercolor outdoors to depict Sandy Point Beach through different colors, layering, and texture. The assignment impacted my learning because it enabled me to bring all these skills from this semester together into one piece. I incorporated using differnt techniqes, layering, and using light and dark to create contrasts.
