Purpose:
To demonstrate understanding of the structure for each of YOUR features: eyes, nose, & mouth;
To practice using black & white charcoal to render a drawing, using brown paper as the middle value
When I looked closely at my drawing of my eyes and my actual eye I noticed that my eye is a lot smaller and narrower than what I drew. I also noticed that the shape of my eye where the ends were rounded then I drew them meaning they didn’t point and the end when the upper and lower lids joined together. When I begin my final self portrait I’m going to make sure I round out the corners of my eye and make them smaller and narrower. I’ll do this by making my upper lid cover more of my eye than what I drew. The overlap of the upper lid over my iris will allow my eye to look narrower and a lot like my actual eye. As for my nose, the most important thing I need to improve on for my final self portrait is the tip of my nose and the front of it. I struggled with my nose a lot and made it look 3-dimensional. I need to make my nostrils a little wider and round the front of my nose more. I also need to make sure the bridge of my nose is a little wider. If I do these tasks my drawing of my nose on my final portrait will look a lot similar to mine. Lastly I think I did a good job filling in my lips and making them look 3-dimensional but I need to work on the structure and outline of them. I need to round the edges of them to look more like my lips and make them more rounded overall. For example the lips I drew are a lot skinnier than my actual lips. To make them thicker I need to round the edges to help them look fuller. When drawing my eyes, my mouth and my nose I learned a lot and advanced my understanding of drawing facial features. I think that if I take what I learned from this practice and apply it to my final portrait I can create something that will end up looking like me.
