Purpose:
To learn how to visually communicate a message through Graphic Design:
To understand what a logo is and its function;
To explain and describe the process of designing logos;
To use creative problem solving skills to design a clear, original, and effective logo
My fictional business is called Helium, and it sells running shoes. It specializes in shoes that are affordable, but very durable and long-lasting. Because of this, my target market was people that may not want to drop hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the newest and greatest sneaker out of Nike or Adidas, but still want something that will feel great and last them a long time. Because of this, I chose designs that conveyed the idea of my shoes lasting a long time. In my first design, it shows a shoe circumnavigating the globe. In my second design, it has a simplified version of a long winding road. My font (which I used in both my designs) was specifically chosen in order to complement the name of the company, which suggested lightness. My font had rounded edges and a balloon-like structure. While creating both of these designs, I learned a lot about how the target audience affects how designers create their logos. I also learned how to use fonts to convey emotions, like using modern fonts to show that the company is technologically advanced. I also learned that logos do not have to be bound by shapes and that it is sometimes more appealing to the eye if there is a variety.
