Reflection
The design, carefulness to detail, evenness and smoothness, and the application of glazes could show quality craftsmanship in one’s art piece. Quality craftsmanship is seen in your work, showing that you took your time to create your piece and didn’t rush through, bad examples being cracks in tiles, bumps, clay bits not removed, etc. To show quality craftsmanship in my work, I tried to show carefulness with a similar shape to each tile, making them all similar in shape. When it came to making the imprint, I pressed down not too light, but not too hard to make a visible imprint and to show my design after I applied my glaze onto my tiles.
I was quite shocked at first when I initially saw the glaze change color at first. I had my doubts about the color, not expecting it to change so drastically. I had bluebell as my main color, it started out pretty dull, not expecting it to turn into a pretty baby blue. Same thing with colors such as celadon and transparent pearl. Transparent pearl was like a beige color at first and I was kind of worried that the color would not turn out as it was shown on the tiles around the room. All the colors had very nice results and it made me really love glazing so far.
I will benefit a lot from this exercise by learning the difficulty of handling clay and learning how to move at ease with it, learning to be lenient with the glaze and give it and knowing all the possibilities of color I have to make. This exercise made me learn a lot from my results and when I am given a task with similar instructions, I will be able to preform higher than last time.
