Remote Learning

Remote students are still expected to follow the YHS Student Handbook

Attendance is, first and foremost, a safety issue.

Remote Learning Attendance:

Study Hall: Remote Students do NOT need to check in on Hangouts or use E-Hallpass. Teachers will mark students with "REM" for REMOTE if their cohort is not onsite for that particular day.

Lunch: At-home students do NOT need to sign in for advisory lunch.

Sick: If you are sick and unable to log in for classes, a parent/guardian still needs to call the Main Office to mark you absent. Your parent/guardian may then receive a followup call from the YHS School Nurse.

Excused Absence/Tardy: According to Maine State Law, Absences and Tardies can be excused for the following reasons:

1) personal illness.

2) appointments with health professionals which cannot be scheduled outside the regular school day.

3) observance of recognized religious holidays when the observance is required during a regularly scheduled school day.

4) emergency family situations.

5) visitation to schools for purpose of transfer or college admission - 3 days maximum may be used for this purpose.

6) planned family absences.

7) educational disruption caused by a student's homelessness, unplanned hospitalization, or placement in foster care or a youth development center.

Unexcused Absence/Tardy: Anything outside the area of excused absence/tardy (i.e. driver's education) is unexcused. Students should not be working during school hours, and whenever possible appointments should be made after school.

Effective At-Home Learning Tips:

Create at dedicated workspace at home to help you stay focused and organized.

  • Use a desk or table if possible. Try not to be in bed.
  • Find a chair that works for you. Make sure feet are on the floor and back is supported.
  • Keep space clear of clutter and distractions. Just like in school, phones should be off and away.
  • Make sure there is plenty of light. Natural light is best, but use a desk lamp if needed.
  • During breaks between classes, step away from the space.
