Path to Proficiency

Language proficiency refers to a person's ability to use a language for a variety of purposes, including, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Proficiency is commonly measured using guidelines developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

You are on a wonderful journey to learn a new language! Each time you are able to check off  YES I CAN! for each small step in the unit that we are working on in class, you will see yourself move along this Path to Proficiency.

Each time you begin a new topic - the weather, clothing, food, etc., you may find yourself back at the starting line. However, since each new topic is dependent on the previous one, you will find that sometimes you will move quickly through each step. A lot will depend on the amount of time and effort you put into working on your language skills!

By the end of Level I in a language, most students are between the Novice High and Intermediate Mid.
