Explore pinching a sculpture, texturing slabs, and utilizing glaze techniques
When working with clay, it's important to work slowly. I found when working with the clay too quickly caused it to crack and dry a lot faster. Sometimes adding a bit of water can help smooth everything out. When you are carving designs on the clay, it's easier to work with when it has sat to dry a little bit because the clay is less soft.
When glazing ceramics, I found that you can create so many looks and colors layering different glazes. I also thought it was cool that not all the glazes look the same before and after being fired, so it's almost like a surprise when you get your art back. When painting on the glaze, I learned you need to let it fully dry before adding another layer, or the glaze can get too thick and crumble.
