Final Drawing
Essential Question: What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still life drawing?
Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Kerry James Marshall, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Reflection-Â
The marks used in my drawing were mostly straight, but also some curved. I was most influenced by cross-contour hatching. Watching the artists use this technique helped me see which ones I liked and which ones I was going to use in my final. Henry Moore's technique was the most influential to me. I really liked how his cross-hatching looked so that's a big part of why I chose to also use that technique. In my pre- instructional, I barely did any shadows, and I made it all 2d in my sketchbook. In my final though, I saw the most improvement in the shadowing and the effects to make it more realistic. Some takeaways I got from this are that shadowing is extremely important, as well as drawing depth.
