Watercolor Landscape painting, 10/30/24
Purpose:
To experiment, explore, and learn a variety of watercolor painting techniques;
To use knowledge of landscape strategies to create a final watercolor landscape;
I noticed that during this unit, I learned how to make washes look like the image was 3d. I painted many layers on my clouds and this made them look very realistic. Not only that, but I also learned that I don't need to make a field look clean and perfect, because real things have imperfections, and I shouldn’t try to re-create anything down to a tee. One more thing I learned from this unit was how to make texture in my leaves. Originally I tried to put detail into my leaves by drawing individual leaves, but as I was painting I learned that if I just painted dots, the leaves would look fuller, and more textured. Washes were the most helpful technique I used in this painting. They helped me with everything from the field to the clouds. In The field, I found washes to help me blend the darker part of my field with the lighter parts and created a helpful base for my flowers and grass. I had trouble with the shape of my tree. In my draft, I made the branches too thick with not enough leaves. After a few tries, I was able to fix how condensed the leaves are, and I was happy with the result of my tree and my overall painting.
