Purpose:
To use the correct facial proportions to draw yourself as accurately as you can;
To draw the individual features, eyes, nose, mouth in a convincing 3D way;
To use the “grid” method to help you draw accurately;
To use charcoal and a stomp to show value changes and dimension.
My self-portrait was very neat. I liked the way it turned out and I think it resembled my face. One challenge I had was when I was drawing my hair, people thought it just looked like lines coming down my face. To fix this, I started chasing my hair to make sections of light and dark. This technique helped me make my hair more realistic and 3d. Another technique I used was instead of drawing hard outlines on my nose, I shared the shadow to make my nose 3d. One more technique I found helpful was using a white pencil to highlight places on my face where the sun hits.
