My name is Blue Orenstein, and I love art. I love how expressive it is, and how it can be used for an extraordinary number of things. I want to create art because I have many ideas in my head, and art helps me get them out. I love putting my love of dragons into clay sculptures, and my love of random bursts of creativity into my drawings. It can be hard, but the reward of seeing my thoughts drawn on the page in front of me is incredibly satisfying. I find myself inspired by many things, as long as I can warp and combine them. I love looking at random items and wondering, “what can I do with that?” A button can turn into a plastic human with holes for eyes, a mole could be combined with a toaster, and the first thing I see as I go outside can become a fantastical creature. I love making beasts and scenes with a lot of fantasy elements, and these make me happy.
This semester I hope to improve my shading and color use. I have plenty of ideas, but they don’t always look real enough or have a fitting color palette. With a better understanding of shading, I can learn enough to improve my art style and get better at balancing the light and shadows in a scene as I wish. With a better color palette, I can invoke the emotions I’m aiming for, make a character feel at home in a landscape, and make a landscape look more unified and realistic, even if it is fantastical. Overall, I look forward to the semester ahead of me and hope to improve my art while keeping its fantastical elements intact.
