Purpose: To determine where values change when light moves over an uneven surface by using a range of values to paint the different values in a realistic, monochromatic self-portrait;
To effectively communicate an image that looks like you through careful examination of the values and structure of your face.
it's a pretty difficult task if you don't take time to number the areas that you are putting shades on. You don't need to outline with the paint because you can look at the picture and decide what shade to paint it with and it all comes together as the facial features become more defined. The use of light when taking the pictures also helped because it created a wider range of value on the pictures which then came into the drawings and made it easier to properly define the facial features.
