“Two of the most important concepts I learned this semester” - the most useful concepts i learned this year is that you don't need to draw or paint a specific thing for it to be beautiful art. this is portrayed in projects like the controlled doodle. Before taking this class I never really thought of sculpting when i thought of art. i also had the idea that sculpting was just rocks or marble-like substances. but as i learned this year you can sculpt anything. our reed sculpture project gave us a perspective on how to move these otherwise straight objects into shapes that all come together to make art.
“Assignment that I am the most proud of” - the assignment from this semester that i am most proud of would have to be the controlled doodle. i'm a huge doodler, in almost all my classes i doodle whenever i get a chance, so naturally this assignment was intriguing to me. and while i usually doodle people or specific things i still liked the concept of freedom in just doodling shapes. i tried to use a technique of negative and positive space by leaving some areas white to give the color a contrast and make the other colors pop. i also added some designs into a lot of the white spaces and some colored spaces just to give it a little bit more. i did this because i was worried it would come off as bland if i hadn't. the impact that this had on my learning was helping me to not worry about creating a specific thing and making it exact but rather just making shapes in any way i wanted with no incorrect answer for them.
