Other Data Collection
Over the course of the 2023-24 school year, we are collecting a variety of SL, teacher, classroom, and student data to help us examine the validity of the SELOC-E.
Surveys
SEL school leaders will be asked to complete a demographic survey, an SEL and emotions survey, and a SELOC-E experience survey (less than one hour total).
Teachers will be asked to complete a demographic survey, a classroom information survey, and an SEL and emotions survey (less than one hour total).
Teachers will also be asked to complete teacher-report SEL skills assessment for five students in their classroom (randomly selected from those whose parents have given consent) at two points in time (less than two hours total).
Focus Groups
Each SEL school leader will be asked to participate in at least one virtual debrief interview or focus group (approximately 60 minutes) to give feedbak on your experience with the SELOC-E. The research team will be conducting focus groups across the year, and we welcome SLs participation throughout, as discussion topics progress.
Teachers will be invited to participate in virtual focus groups for teachers in the winter and spring; teacher participation in focus groups is encouraged but optional.
Student Achievement Data
We will request the support of each school in obtaining de-identified student-level data for each participating teacher’s class from your state standardized reading and math assessments for 2023-24.
These data are necessary to evaluate the validity of the SELOC-E before we offer it to schools around the nation as a free, easy-to-use observational checklist that can support best practices in the delivery of equitable SEL in elementary schools.
We understand that standardized test data from 2023-24 may not be available until after the conclusion of the school year).
Please email yaleseloc@yale.edu with any data collection questions or concerns.
