Let us guide you along this adventure with a timeline
The project was planned to be 20 hours approximately in just the English subject lessons but end up being the whole third term and way more hours since it went from an English proposal to become an interdisciplinary & global project adventure. Creating teaching proposals as this one you know how you start and when you do so but you never can predict how things are going to evolve and end.

Context for the Learning Scenario
Justification:
The rationale behind the telecollaborative project "The Young Activist's Adventure" is rooted in the need to integrate digital competencies, language learning, social sciences, and intercultural awareness into a cohesive educational experience. In an era where digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming integral to daily life, it is crucial for young learners to develop not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of global issues and cultural diversity.
Challenge:
The primary challenge addressed by the project is the need to enhance students' digital literacy and global awareness while fostering effective communication and problem-solving skills. Traditional classroom settings often fall short in providing students with real-world applications and cross-cultural experiences. By incorporating AI and telecollaboration, the project aimed to bridge these gaps and prepare students for an increasingly connected and complex world.
Related Topics:
Digital Competencies and AI: As AI continues to shape various aspects of life, understanding its principles and applications becomes essential. Introducing young learners to AI helps demystify the technology and prepares them for future interactions with it (Ng, et al., 2022; UNESCO, 2022).
Telecollaboration and Global Learning: Engaging students in telecollaborative projects promotes intercultural understanding and collaborative skills. This approach allows students to interact with peers from different backgrounds, enhancing their ability to communicate, empathize, and work together towards common goals (Dooly, 2018; Dooly, et al., 2021).
Interdisciplinary Learning: Integrating subjects such as Social Sciences with language learning through real-world issues like water conservation helps students make meaningful connections between academic content and global challenges. This interdisciplinary approach supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Telecollaboration:
Telecollaboration, or Virtual Exchange, was a central component of the project, enabling students from Catalonia, Spain, and Abuja, Nigeria, to work together despite geographical distances. This method not only facilitated cross-cultural exchanges but also allowed students to engage in collaborative activities such as research, content creation, and advocacy campaigns. Through telecollaboration, students gained firsthand experience in global communication, cultural negotiation, and joint problem-solving.
The project's design, which included collaborative project planning, the establishment of a timeline, and the creation of AI tools, was aimed at fostering a comprehensive learning experience. This approach provided students with opportunities to act as experts on water conservation, compare water-related challenges in their local contexts, and ultimately raise awareness in their communities.
By addressing the challenges of digital literacy, global awareness, and effective communication through telecollaboration and interdisciplinary learning, "The Young Activist's Adventure" represents a forward-thinking educational initiative. It prepares students not only for academic success but also for meaningful participation in a connected and diverse world.
