Our project aims to create a transformative educational experience by connecting young learners from Catalonia, Spain, and Abuja, Nigeria, in a telecollaborative project. This initiative serves a dual purpose: enhancing their English language proficiency and fostering an understanding of the global water crisis. By intertwining language education with a significant real-world issue, we intend to cultivate empathy, global citizenship, and environmental stewardship in students aged 12 and under.
Introduction to Prompt Engineering:
Concept: Prompt engineering will be introduced as a creative tool for young learners to generate ideas and content.
Application: Students will learn to craft simple prompts that will serve as the basis for their creative projects, such as posters and digital content. This will not only boost their language skills but also encourage critical thinking and creativity.
Examples: Simple prompts might include questions or statements like "What will the world look like without clean water?" or "Tell a story about a day when you had no water."
AI Integration:
Tools: The project will incorporate AI tools that can translate the children's language prompts into visual representations. These AI tools will serve as a bridge between language and art, helping students understand how words can be transformed into images and designs.
Outcomes: This innovative use of AI will demystify technology for young learners and demonstrate its practical application in the creative process. It will also reinforce their understanding of the language by showing them the tangible outcomes of their prompts.
Cultural Exchange and Environmental Education:
Cultural Exchange: Students from Catalonia and Abuja will engage in virtual exchanges, sharing their perspectives and experiences related to water in their respective regions. This will help broaden their worldview and foster a sense of global community.
Environmental Focus: The water crisis, a critical global issue, will be the central theme around which discussions, storytelling, and educational content are structured. Through this thematic focus, students will learn about the challenges of water scarcity, its impact on different communities, and the importance of water conservation.
Activities: The project will include guided discussions on water-related issues, viewing of educational videos, and collaborative projects where students work together to create awareness posters or digital content about the water crisis.
Language Proficiency: Students will improve their English language skills, particularly in using tenses correctly, which will enhance their overall communication abilities.
Technological Literacy: By engaging with AI tools, students will develop a basic understanding of how technology can be used creatively and effectively in various contexts.
