On Tuesday, Ana Paula was waiting for us at the Sao Martinho do Porto library and she explained to us the "projeto a janela", an initiative of Lisbon City Council to promote language, literature, books, libraries and reading. Every year they do training for teachers and have the pedagogical planning of a whole series of quality books. He told us different experiences taken from this project that he had put into practice and which had worked very well.
Later we went to the infant and primary school of Cela, built in 2020. Its facilities are very new and spacious. The building has many details designed for children.
We also went to the Alfeizerao primary school, which opened just a month ago and where they are still just settling in.
The common areas such as the hallways and the courtyard are very spacious and the classrooms are very large. This creates a very peaceful atmosphere. The library has begun to be organized but there are still many books to be placed.
We were impressed by the large size of the buildings for the number of students.
In the afternoon we were able to participate in a reading club formed by 7 students aged 11 and 12, it was an optional activity. They read poems by Portuguese authors. The reading aloud was very good. The teacher reminded them of expressiveness, visual contact and projection. The teacher was carrying a chapter of a book in Spanish entitled "La familia Fernández de vacaciones en Mallorca". Montse read it and then the students were reading it and translating it into Portuguese at the same time. They were able to notice similarities between the Portuguese and Spanish languages.
Then we went to the 6th grade group D, made up of 24 students, where they did a workshop on copyright and creative licenses. Ana Paula showed them websites that allow them to detect plagiarism. She also showed them websites to find images, music and sounds free of copyright in order to use them in their work. From a news item about plagiarism, she showed the students the importance of specifying bibliographic data in their work and taught them how to do it with the computer. In pairs they had to write the bibliography of different books and practice it.
It was a very interesting day!
