From January 19th to 24th, 2025, the students of the First Year of Baccalaureate in the subject of Citizenship, Politics and Law participated in a mobility in Bratislava, Slovakia, as part of our Erasmus+ project "Voices of Europe: Sharing Values Through Music". This project, developed in collaboration with the Gamča educational center, aimed to explore European values through music and promote intercultural cooperation, critical thinking and the development of artistic and digital skills.
The experience combined workshops, debates, cultural activities and collaborative dynamics that connected students from both countries. The exchange began with a presentation by the host school and continued with activities that offered a balance between theoretical learning and practical experiences. One of the first activities was a workshop in which students analyzed iconic European songs, identifying how they reflect values such as solidarity, equality and freedom. In addition, they participated in an exciting City Rally through Bratislava, solving clues in international teams while discovering the most emblematic places of the city and its history.
Another of the highlighted activities was the musical exchange, in which each group presented and analyzed previously selected songs, generating enriching discussions on how they reflect European values. They also had the opportunity to participate in a traditional Slovak dance workshop, which allowed students to connect with the cultural richness of the host country while collaborating with their local peers. The cultural immersion continued with a theatrical activity focused on the Velvet Revolution, in which participants recreated key historical events that marked Slovakia’s struggle for freedom and human rights.
In addition to the activities in Bratislava, the students visited the historic city of Trnava, known as the “Slovak Rome”. There, together with students from another local educational center, they explored emblematic sites such as the Basilica of St. Nicholas and the ancient medieval walls. The visit reinforced the values of solidarity and teamwork, promoting a deep connection with European cultural heritage.
Throughout this mobility, the students reated several collaborative products, highlighting their learning and reflections on European values. The experience not only allowed them to develop intercultural and artistic skills, but also strengthened their sense of belonging to a united and diverse Europe.
The project "Voices of Europe: Sharing Values Through Music" has been a transformative opportunity for all participants, consolidating the commitment of the Illa de Rodes Institute to the promotion of active citizenship and the fundamental values of the European Union. The mobility in Bratislava has left an indelible mark on students and teachers, inspiring new initiatives and reinforcing the European dimension of the educational center.
