ABOUT US

IE Pi del Burgar is a public primary and secondary school for ages 3 to 16, located in Reus (Catalonia, Spain). It started with 56 students in the school year 2006-2007. Nowadays, we have over 660 students and about 60 teachers. From its outset, our school has been a reference for our willingness to effectively respond to the heterogeneity of its students (different origins, different socio economic background, different capabilities), in a framework of Catalan identity, secularism, pluralism and the defence of democratic values.

Two of our main pillars are:

Plurilingualism

We are currently implementing a 'Generació Plurilingüe' (GEP), an innovative pedagogical program led by the Catalan Education Department. It involves measures to promote communication in all of the school's languages (Catalan, Spanish, English as a foreign language, French as a second foreign language and other languages spoken by our students, such as Arabic). For instance, the subject of maths is partially taught in English in grades 9 and 10. A percentage of the cross curricular projects implemented in grades 7 and 8 will be also in English. Special attention is given to oral skills.

Innovative methodologies

At Pi del Burgar we are committed to the constant revision of our methodologies with the aim of improving academic results of all our students, regardless of their capacities. An example of this is the implementation of the GEP program which involves the use of the CLIL methodologies and the improvement of communication skills.

We also apply Project Based Learning (PBL) methodologies. PBL is a student-centered pedagogical approach designed to give students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects set around challenges they may face in the real world.

ICT also plays an important role in our school. Students are encouraged to use a wide range of ICT tools that specifically suit their educational needs. Students are allowed to use mobile phones, laptops and tablets and are asked to create all kinds of audiovisual products. They are also encouraged to learn to use apps which will make them autonomous lifelong learners.
