The meeting will be held in Dundaga Secondary school, Latvia. Pupils and teachers will take part in learning activities, get to know the local region and the
people. Will acquire skills and abilities to integrate into the local community.
The key area of this meeting will be “Consumerism”. Consumerism is one of the strongest forces affecting our lives in the modern world. The term ‘consumerism’
does not simply refer to immediate factors in our daily lives such as the omnipresence of advertising, but anything connected to the overarching idea in our
modern society that in order to be happier, better and more successful people we have to have more stuff.
Students, divided in international groups, will be involved in various activities:
1 – Advertising. In international groups, students will study what advertising is, get acquainted with the history and development of advertising. They will find out
about advertising guidelines and the legislation that applies to them. Will conduct research on how advertising affects people psychologically. A consumer survey
will also be conducted to find out how advertising affects the consumer when choosing a product or receiving a service. As a result of the work, the obtained data
will be collected in presentations, infographics and booklets using information technologies.
2 – Social portals. Students will study how social portals affect us as market consumers, how much we can trust this news. Will acquire skills to critically evaluate
information.
3 - Newspapers and magazines do not just contain pages of advertisements but also stories about new gadgets, new clothes, property, makeovers, travel and
many other things, all suggesting that having them will make life more fun and interesting, bring you greater freedom or bring some other positive change to your
life. Students will learn the skills to find hidden ads in magazine and newspaper columns.
4 – Media, TV, Radio. The impact of different media on our daily lives. Advertising in media, TV, movies and various other programs.
5 - The Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism. News research, truthfulness. Benefits of investigative journalism for society. How it can affect us by giving
additional knowledge about the various processes and activities around us.
The aim of students' learning will be to find out how advertising influences a person's behavior when purchasing a product or receiving a service. They will acquire
skills such as media literacy and critical thinking, and will improve their foreign language and digital skills.
