This project is held in 4th ESO within the new subject of Cultural Activities but, of course, it can also be done from the English subject or even interdisciplinarily from Social Sciences and English as a foreign language.
Students make groups of 3-4 and choose one of the following countries:
USA
UK
Ireland
Australia
India
Canada
New Zealand
South Africa
Later on, they are asked to work on reading skills from some Burlington readers, do research online and prepare a presentation. Once this is done, the teacher generates a QR code so as to include it in the map. The cultural map is, then, posted in the class so that anyone can access the information by scanning the QRs.
The structure of this project is as follows:
1) Students take the reader from Burlington Books called “All about…”; read each of the chapters and work on the activities. Prepare a Gdrive document and share it with the members of your group.
2) Then, choose the most relevant information, edit it and prepare a presentation. You can use Canva, Prezi, Google Slides. You can include extra information from the Internet.
Now, prepare the following:
- Location
- History
- Characteristics: Economy, currency, languages
- Tourism. Famous places
- Celebrities
- Typical music, sports, food...
- Other relevant info: laws, festivals, Current situation
3) Finally, get ready and explain what you leaned to your classmates.
Do not forget to rehearse your Oral Presentation and post your document (final version) before the deadline in GClassroom.
