Topic: Health and wellbeing

The aim is to help students in acquiring deep knowledge and integrating good habits for the purpose of self-managing their health and diet, with strong emphasis not only on the individual but also on the community benefits.

The presented activities should allow the incorporation of this concept in all the subjects and key competences of the curriculum.

Some examples of this integration are: from which point we start (statistics on food habits), analysis of the chemical properties of some foods (biology and chemistry), discussion in groups based on realistic goals that may trigger an improvement in their eating habits and general well-being (ethics), elaboration of posters and videos to publicize these goals (ICT)...

Activity: A survey about personal food habits, sports practice and sleep schedule, not only related to health but also in terms of overall well-being.

Activity: Visit to chocolate museum

Taking advantage of the fact that there is a chocolate museum in Barcelona, ​​we carried out an activity to link educational knowledge in the scientific field with chocolate. With a previous explanation of the cocoa tree, the manufacturing process and the ingredients of the chocolate, you will learn the basic techniques to handle the chocolate in the most fun and sweet way!

Activity: What is the best diet when we do sports?

What is the diet of an elite athlete?

We visited the center and the club’s nutritionist and Olympic swimmer told us what diet he follows. We practiced a Zumba class.

Activity: “A small change can improve your health!” that can be achieved during the extent of the project. Each students’ group had to think about a realistic goal that would trigger an improvement on their food habits and general well-being. The strategies for its implementation were developed and planned before the activity itself. Finally, students performed a personal reflection and discussed the learned lessons within the team in order to evaluate if they had accomplished the initial milestone.

SUGAR WORKSHOP

Activity: After the study of the sugar content in food, the student should apply it to build the ideal meal for each person.

They visited the Central Market with a Gymkhana: What do I have to buy? They chose a recipe for dinner, and cooked it.
