Water and Food system sustainability

A) Our modes of production, distribution and consumption : What are the threat ?

Our objective is to show our pupils the concern of our everyday life through the worldwide agriculture, the mass production, food waste, bad food habits, fair trade, extinction of some sea fish; inequalities between countries to food access


B) What are the dangers of our actual way of eating ?

Pupils will make some surveys among all the pupils of their school and their family. They will create an online questionnaire about their food habits, what they eat, drink, if they drink lots of sodas, junk fook, lots of candies etc. Pupils will learn to read the labels of the products they buy and they will compare them.


C) Which solution can we find to eat better ?

They will create a vegetable garden, then they will show their products to the other European pupils. Pupils will meet some local farmers, market gardener. They will discover and taste local and bioproducts. They will cook in a community restaurant to learn to reuse leftover foods and avoid wasting and water.

Activity: A survey about food waste

  • Students were asked the same questions in order to establish comparisons between individuals and cultural factors.

  • They prepared a results' presentation

  • They exposed the results to the others.

Activity: Workshop on Compost

The students discovered why it is important to compost their deciphers at home. They learned how to sort their waste and select which ones can be used to make compost.

Activity: Workshop: Planting our European vegetable garden.

We taught the students that it is easy to make a garden at home, even in a small space. They learned to recognize European plants.

Activity: Cooking with local food workshop.

Students have found that cooking is easy and can be fun. Students will discover a recipe, cook and taste local food.

They learned to select quality products, peel fruit and make a dessert with seasonal products.

Activity: Painting workshop.

The students made vegetable plots. They painted them with europeen colors. Gardening activities in order to show them the importance of eating local.

Activity: Recognizing typical Normand vegetables.

The students met several local farmers. The farmers submit their farm products and bio products.

Students learned why their products are différent from industrial products.The students can answer questions and taste some local products.

Activity: Debate "Palm Oil".

The students researched the marketing of palm oil. We organized a debate which allowed them to discuss palm oil issues in English.
