The first day at the school
After visiting Vejle, we drove to Sønderborg, a Danish town in the Region of Southern Denmark. The old town is on the island of Als, but some suburbs have spread to the mainland of Jutland. It has 28,000 inhabitants. Sønderborg Skolen, the school that so kindly hosted us for 5 days, is located in this town.

When we arrived at the school at eight o'clock, three members of the Pedagocial Learning Centre, Ulla Lund, Hayssam Gheith and Hanne Stuckert, were waiting for us. We had our first meeting. We were welcomed with coffee and delicious chocolate pastries. They explained to us how the school works and how it is organised. It is a very big school, with large classrooms and long corridors. We had the feeling of being in a labyrinth.

We were fascinated by the decorations and the brightly painted walls. The walls are covered by showcases full of students' projects. The first day at the school was really the beginning of this adventure!

They have been members of the UNESCO Schools Network for 20 years. They take into account the 17 SDGs in their educational projects.

Teams
There are 70 teachers. They are grouped in teams according to their speciality. There are 650 pupils, between 25 and 28 per class.
LEAPS
LEAPS
It is an acronym for Learning and Engagement through Authentic Projects with a focus on Science. It is the only school in Sønderborg where pupils learn through projects.
