All course are considered College Prep level courses unless otherwise indicated (e.g. H, Pre-AP, AP).
With the exception of Theology I, Theology II, Theology III (Semester 2), Senior Synthesis, Physical Education, and Weight Training, all College Prep level courses meet the minimum standard set by the University of California system to be credit-eligible and grade-eligible for consideration in the higher education admissions process.
Pre-AP is a curricular framework developed and overseen by the College Board. This curricular framework is rooted in providing students with a deep and foundational understanding of mathematics, English language, science, social studies, and the visual and performing arts. In implementing these course frameworks, Xavier tightens an already strong connection to an international academic learning and teaching community grounded in providing students with an education based on skills that can be translated throughout the curriculum. These experiences empower students to make connections across their coursework and can contextualize course content into real-world applications. In this implementation process, over the next two years, Xavier faculty will receive increased training for differentiation and initiatives in instituting project-based learning to support the opportunities that this dynamic framework provides.
Xavier College Prep offers Honors-level courses that are anchored in the College Prep equivalent course. Honors courses consist of accelerated and greater depth of instruction compared to College Prep level courses.
Xavier College Prep participates in the nationwide Advanced Placement (AP) program of college-level instruction in high school by offering Advanced Placement courses. Students who enroll in these courses at Xavier are required to take the college grade examinations prepared by the College Entrance Examination Board. Success in the examination may earn the student college credit, advanced placement in college, or both.
Xavier College Prep defines “dual enrollment” as being enrolled in two institutions – Xavier College Prep and a higher education institution – at the same time in order for a student to take a course for which they receive both high school and college credit. DuE courses count toward Xavier’s graduation requirements.
Xavier College Prep defines “concurrent enrollment” as being enrolled in two institutions – Xavier College Prep and a higher education institution - at the same time in order for a student to take a course not offered by Xavier College Prep for which they receive college credit. ConE courses are for enrichment purposes and do not count toward Xavier’s graduation requirement, with the exception of pre-approved advanced mathematics courses beyond AP Calculus BC.
