RubricsÂ
The use of rubrics is extremely important in grading. Rubrics lay out clear expectations before students begin an assignment, make it impossible for students to claim that they did not know what expectations were, make it easy for teachers to clearly mark in which areas a student did or did not meet expectations (and make grading way easier!), and are a useful tool to send to parents if they have questions about a student's grade. Rubrics for paragraphs, five-paragraph essays, research papers, and lab reports are already made- and should be used for these types of assignments across all classes. They are posted below, as well as in the Xavier High School Writing Style Manual. Rubrics for graded class discussions, annotations in Literature class, and creative projects are also below. These rubrics are ready to import into Google Classroom to be used for any assignment (see this video for a tutorial on how to import rubrics to Google Classroom). The technology tutorials page of this website has information about how to post rubrics for students in Google Classroom assignments. This page also contains printable rubrics that you may print for student viewing.
