Fill-in-the-blank Syllabus
Below is a fill-in-the-blank syllabus that complies with all of the policies in the Teacher's Handbook. The course syllabus should be posted in Google Classroom, and distributed to students at the beginning of the year.
Unit Plan
Units are blocks of material that focus on a specific topic or work of literature. Organizing your year into units helps ensure that what you are teaching builds neatly on what students have already learned, and that the lessons/tests/quizzes/projects you give are aimed towards helping students achieve the goals in your course's UBD (See Curriculum Plans and Materials page for UBDs). Units can include multiple assessments. It is recommended (not strictly required, but recommended) that each unit includes some homework/classwork grades, around four quiz grades, and at least two major assessments (papers, tests, projects). Planning out a unit in advance saves you much time and energy that would have been spent having to plan lessons day by day. The document below is an example of a unit plan for a Literature unit.
Unit Plans should include:
texts and supplementary texts that will be used
links online resources that will be used
the goals from the UBD that the unit will address
the important topics, vocabulary, and guiding questions of the unit
the types of assessments that will be conducted
a schedule of reading/which chapters and sections ought to go together (not applicable to math courses)
a general schedule of when lessons will take place/when assignments will be due (look at the school calendar to account for days of no class)
Optional:
all instructional materials (notes, google slides, etc.) linked ahead of time
all tests/assessments completely developed ahead of time
