Scientific Method/Lab Design objectives:
LD.1 I can construct a scientific experiment evident by my ability to:
- Identify the problem to be solved and formulate as a question
- Identify independent, dependent, and controlled variables in an experiment
- Identify the hypothesis to be tested and write in an if . . . then . . . because format whenever possible
- Design a reliable experiment that tests the hypothesis, investigates the phenomenon, or solves the problem.
- Communicate the details of an experimental procedure clearly and completely
LD.2 I can use professional format in the presentation of an experiment evident by my ability to
- Follow correct professional lab format to write up a lab
- Record and represent data in an organized table with a title and columns/rows clearly labeled
- Identify a pattern in the data and use the pattern to make predictions
- Make a claim about the results of an experiment and support the claim with evidence and reasoning
- Answer questions in the lab book following correct scientific format
- Evaluate an investigation to determine if it was a valid means of answering the question and if the results were reliable
- Identify the shortcomings in an experimental design and suggest specific improvements
