THE BIO
Caitlynn Vidya Savari is a singer-songwriter, composer, vocal arranger, voice coach, and choral director born and raised in a Southeast Asian country called, Malaysia. She has a Bachelor of Music in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, Boston (USA), after completing a two-year preparatory music foundation at the International College of Music (Malaysia). She has gained a Masters in Music Education at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX and is currently employed as the Head Choir Director at Wylie East Junior High School.
THE TEACHING
This is Caitlynn's third year as a choir director and has been teaching music since she was little. From teaching friends and family how to harmonize, summer after-school music classes, to private piano and vocal lessons ranging to those of all ages. She has performed and sung in countless choral and solo ensembles since junior high through to college. She has performed as an ensemble member in Berklee's Women Music Network, Berklee's Indian Ensemble, HSU's Chamber Choir and Concert Choir. She has put on and performed in several musical productions across the U.S and Asia.
THE METHOD
Ms. Savari believes that students should drive their teaching experience and draws on SEL strategies in her classroom environment. Students feel safe to explore with likeminded individuals, and with their voice in the classroom which gives them control over how and what they learn. She has high expectations of her students as they strive for excellence. As a Third Culture Kid (TCK) she knows how difficult it is to fit in and adapt to the changes happening around our students everyday. She champions the unique and the different and celebrates everything that makes a person special in their own way.
THE CAREER
Teaching is just one of the many passions Ms. Savari has. Her teacher tool-belt carries a songwriting degree as well! She draws musical influences from Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Bareilles, and Norah Jones in her songwriting, fusing a mix of music styles of pop, musical theatre, and jazz. A thoughtful songwriter, she uses common music song forms to create haunting but memorable melodies that linger in one’s ears long after the song has ended. Ms. Savari has a wide anthology of songs featured on Soundcloud and Youtube. Even as a teacher, she is still writing for artists and festivals around the world. Most recently, she was the lyric writer for two songs, "Baby, You've Got it Made" and "Je T'aime" for the Jazzaar Festival in Switzerland. She is currently in the works of writing more choral compositions. Ms. Savari still performs around the Abilene area especially as a member of Chorus Abilene's newest group, BackBeat.
THE VOICE
As a vocalist, Ms. Savari demonstrates mastery across the alto - mezzo-soprano range. One will hear distinct inflections of American pop, jazz, country, and folk in her song renditions. Known for her soulful and crystal voice, Ms. Savari's maturity in song rendition came as a result of years of singing experience gained from participation in talent shows, musical theatre, live concerts, private gigs and club performances from primary school to college and professional level. One of her strongest assets is her natural ability to harmonize any lead melody (vertical and horizontal harmony) and her harmonization gives each piece of musical work a unique sound that is inimitable. This rare talent invites numerous jobs as back-up vocalist for live concert performances and studio recording projects.
THE CONCLUSION
She has studied under professional and highly esteemed professionals such as Sarah Brindell, Scarlet Keys, Pat Pattison, Annette Phillips, Dr. Melody Rich and Dr. Dee Romines. She pours her heart and soul into her students so they may grow to have a beautiful and passionate relationship with music. She is kind, playful, patient and joyful and strives in making connections with her students.
