WHS Local Scholarship Competition cLASS OF 2024

Dear Class of 2024:

Welcome to the Whitewater High School Local & Area Scholarship Competition!  Winning a scholarship is exciting and can provide financial support to help you pursue your dreams and pay for a college degree.   As you begin learning about our local competition, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Scholarships are awarded to young people for many reasons. Students are recognized for academic excellence, superior test scores, and outstanding achievement in extra-curricular activities. Many students will win a scholarship because they have excelled in clubs and organizations or because they are majoring in a specific area at a special school. Some organizations award scholarships to students who have outstanding character, volunteer their time for public service, or to students who have financial need. There are also families in our area who award memorial scholarships to young people who possess qualities similar to their loved ones. The criteria the for selection of each scholarship recipient is unique.  Seniors must complete well-written applications that answer specific questions and describe personal achievements, plans, and character.  Always have someone proofread your application to make sure there are no grammar or spelling errors before submitting it.

Your application will help the individual scholarship committees understand who you are, all you’ve accomplished, and why you should be chosen as their scholarship recipient. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship based on financial need, please make sure you describe your circumstances on the scholarship application. It can be difficult to determine the extent of a student’s financial need so any information you feel comfortable sharing will be greatly appreciated.

The following are very important dates you need to mark on your calendar:

February 21:  Local & Area Scholarship Presentation to Seniors (Click to see a copy)

February 21 - March 21:  Seniors Work on Scholarship Applications (4 weeks)

Thursday, March 21:  Scholarship Applications are Due by 3:30 pm

May 6 - 8:  Recipients Receive an Invitation to Scholarship Night

May 29:  Scholarship Night at 6 pm, WHS Auditorium  (Attendance is Required)
