This benchmark was about going over the SDG's again, trying to narrow down what ones we might be interested in and learning about them. I went to my Senior advisor and he helped me determine what SDG's I might want to do.
After being in AGS for 4 years now, we have talked about SDG's and their importance a lot throughout this program. One of the SDG's that has always spoken to be has been #5 Gender Equality. This is always something that is important to me considering it is something that effects not only me but a lot of women around the world. The part of this SDG I am going to focus on elderly women mental health and strengthening the mind.
In this part of the project, we went deeper into our SDG's to figure out what we wanted to do in our community regarding it. It effects women who are more likely to have children and come from poverty. You can see this issue daily with women being paid less than men and having less opportunities. There has also been a significant increase in the elderly population with respect to gender inequality. During this Benchmark I meet with one of our teachers Mrs D and my advisor Mr Combs to go over everything in this part and my next steps. They really helped expand my ideas on what I wanted to do. Helped me find out how I wanted to help my community.
In this benchmark we used this time to draft our project proposal and our next steps for our project. My idea was to go to a care facility for the elderly and interview them about gender inequality in their lifetime and what experiences they have had. I would ask them all a set of similar questions and see that differences that they have experienced.
Throughout this benchmark, we created a timeline for our Capestone project. What we are going to do, what will we need to complete our project, will I need help to do my project, etc. Overall this was just getting my thought down on paper to plan out what I needed to do to complete my project.
This was after I completed my Capestone project. Reflecting on what I have done for the project and what went wrong and right. Even though I had some problems throughout, with having to switch some major parts of my project with going to a different place. I did like the feedback I got from my managers at my job and hearing about their experiences with gender inequality within the work place.
