Last year, a killdeer bird made a nest in the Westwood Middle School field parking lot! Because killdeer are a protected species, their nests cannot be moved. Police had to rope off the area. This meant that part of the parking lot was unusable, which created challenges. Besides the killdeer, Westwood residents often see deer, squirrels, foxes, and other wildlife in yards and streets. These encounters can cause car accidents, damage gardens, or even spread disease.
How can our community better coexist with local wildlife while still keeping people safe and daily life running smoothly?
Design a solution that allows the Westwood community to protect local wildlife while ensuring safety for people. Your solution should balance the needs of animals and humans in a creative and practical way.
