Just Jump!

Course Available - Period 1

Target grades: 4-5

Students will have fun jumping their way to improved cardiovascular health while being introduced to and practicing various individual, partner and group jump rope skills. This course culminates with students designing, creating and performing a timed, musically-supported jump rope routine.

Collage & Comic Book Making

Course Available - Period 1

Target grades: 4-5

Artists like Picasso and Matisse used collage, an artistic technique of applying “found” materials (newspaper, magazine, printed images, paper, etc.) in combination with paint to create art. In this class, students will spend 4x weeks in the process of making a collage or comic book!

In this course students will engage in a variety of reader’s theater plays. Each week students will collaborate with each other to identify ways in which our voices, gestures, movements, and sounds can be incorporated to enhance the skit. Along with public speaking and acting, this course will provide students with practice in reading fluently with expression, rate, phrasing, accuracy, and using punctuation. It will also expose students to a variety genres, comprehension of the text, and build an understanding of characters.

Harry Potter & the Awesome Science Experiments

Course Available - Period 1

Target grade: 5

Students will take part in reading the book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. They will also be participating in daily hands-on Harry Potter themed stem activities. This club will have students falling in love with the series!

Lego Robot Masters

Course Available - Period 2

Target grades: 4-5

Students will explore how robotics can be used to help humans do different types of jobs. They will build and code robots using LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics kits. They will also use LEGOs to modify a robot design to make it bigger and more powerful.

This course presents an opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of art and design. Students will focus on strengthening their skills in composition for 2D as well as 3D art pieces while exploring a variety of mediums such as watercolor, tempera paint, and mixed media collage. They will learn new techniques in sculpture relief using metal, use collections of doodles & simple patterns to turn them into amazing Zentangle design illustrations, and other project-based activities.

Cloud Appreciation

Target grades: 4-5

Calling all cloud enthusiasts! Join us outside and within this STEAM classroom as we observe, describe and sketch details of cloud formations in our scientific journals, create selector tools and dioramas to identify the 10x main types of clouds and their importance to the water cycle. Let’s figure out the characteristics of your favorite cloud, and where you can find it in the world!

Math in Art

This class will integrate math and art through various projects. Students will practice math concepts while creating beautiful pieces of art. Students will have many projects to bring home throughout the course.

In this course, students will pick different projects to complete. These projects are related to the math topics covered throughout 4th grade. This is a great opportunity for students to review the math topics previously learned and to prepare for 5th grade math!

Engineering Rocks!

Course Available - Period 3

Target grades: 4-5

Students will explore structures, simple machines, and movement using Rokenbok STEM kits. They will focus on concepts such as how to make things strong, how to make things move, how to measure, and how to use a design and engineering process to solve a challenge.

In this course, students will practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts through engaging games and activities. With these hands-on activities, students will grow an understanding of each operation and strive for mastery!

Better, Faster, Stronger

Course Available - Period 3

Target grades: 4-5

This course focuses on students improving their speed, agility and quickness as well as their overall fitness and stamina. The approach to improving these skills will be fun and active yet also incorporate the benefits of goal setting and tracking progress. This course culminates with students developing their own fitness routine based on the many exercises taught in this class.

What’s that sound? Can you feel the beat? Music & Play uses educational games to help students participate in activities based on elements of sound and rhythm via movement, tech and of course performance with students’ voices, bodies and instruments! At the end of this class, students will be able to create their own instrument.

STEM Problem Solvers #1

Course Available - Period 3

Target grades: 4-5

Students will be introduced to various STEM careers like scientists, engineers, architects, coders, robotics, etc. They will take part in activities about real word challenges that professionals face. They will empower themselves as leaders and problem solvers. Can also be taken with STEM Problem Solvers #2 as the activities will be different.

Music Instruments: Past and Present - NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Course Available - Period 4

Target grades: 4-5

Students will have the opportunity to view and research how musical instruments developed over a long period of time. Students will pair up with someone and be given an index card with about 4 instruments to research. The paired students will search the historical development of the assigned instruments and will be able to find pictures of the instruments and create a presentation using Google Slides. Each slide will indicate how the instruments looked like and how they came to look like what we have as a musical instrument presently.

Rhythm & Movement

Course Available - Period 4

Target grades: 4-5

Students will learn movements based in yoga, stretching and dance that are synched with instrumental playlists inspired from around the world! Rhythm and Movement will help students to build strength and balance while being exposed to international melodies and energetic beats! Students will choose their favorite song and movements to showcase at the end of the course.
